Being a tropical country the weather is very hot most of the year, sunblock is essential as is repellent against mosquitoes and other insects.
Matagalpa has very nice weather because it is surrounded by mountains. The temperatures vary between 21º C (70º F) and 27º C (80º F) during the summer (dry season) with humidity of 64%,and during the winter (rainy season) the temperature is between 60º F and 21º C (70ºF). However, during March, April and May the temperatures go up to 32º C (89.6º F) during the day.
Because of that, we recommend comfortable and cool clothes, especially in the pacific zone of the country.During the winter the weather is cooler in the northern zone and rains are more frequent.Closed shoes or tennis shoes are recommended especially if you like hiking a lot.
