Climate

The climate of Nicaragua is almost always hot and relatively humid, but the variations in climate depend on the altitude of the region.

Seasons:
Winter (the rainy season)
Summer (the dry season)

From May to October
From November to April

Temperatures:
Winter (the rainy season)
Summer (the dry season)

81-90°F (27-32ºC)
86-95°F (30º- 35ºC)

The cities of Matagalpa, Esteli, Jinotega, and Boaca have fresher, more agreeable climates than several other popular Nicaraguan cities because they are located at higher elevations.  The temperature can vary between 18-25°C (64-77°F) from October to February and between 25-30°C (77-86°F) from March to September.

Leon, Managua, Chinandega, and Granada are characterized by high temperatures throughout the year.  In the summer months of March and April temperatures can reach 40°C (104°F).

What Clothes to Bring

In general the temperature is hot, so it is best to bring light clothing.  However, if you travel to northern Nicaragua between October and February, it is a good idea to bring something warmer too.  But, don’t forget that the temperature never gets below 18°C (64°F).  Rain gear may also be very useful.

If you will be hiking, don’t forget to bring good shoes and long pants to protect you from the mosquitoes and the strong sun.
